ESI's Owen Nelson (03 team) committed to Shattuck-St. Mary's U19 soccer team. Owen kicks off training at his new academy on August 18. The Shattuck-St. Mary's School is in Faribault, MN and SSM Soccer is considered to be one of the top 95 clubs across the country. The program is part of the MLS Elite Youth Development Platform.

Owen is excited about the transition to Minnesota and also reflected on how this latest goal was a byproduct of consistent training over the years with ESI and Stéphane Auvray.

"ESI played a big role in my soccer development," Owen said. "When competing and trialing at the highest levels, I was able to make good decisions under pressure because of the training I received at ESI."

Owen is enthusiastic about SSM's soccer for several reasons. Since its inception fifteen years ago, the SSM Soccer Program has consistently demonstrated excellence in soccer at a national level. This includes the following impressive statistics:

  • Participation in five national championships
  • Playoff participation in six of the ten years of the program
  • The program has been ranked as one of the top high schools in the country to place players in Division I college soccer programs
  • SSM has placed 99 percent of its players in collegiate soccer programs and has contributed two players to the Men’s National Team, eleven players to professional teams, thirteen players to the Youth National Team, and two players to the Futsal National Team.

Along with playing high-level soccer against some of the best soccer players in the country, Owen will benefit from the school's academic programs and Shattuck-St. Mary's global learning community. The population at the school is diverse with students coming from 36 states and 27 countries. Owen is optimistic about it all and understands the hard work on the field with ESI, and in the classroom at school, is what is elevating him on this new path.

"It means alot," Owen said. "It shows that the hard work I have done before this has paid off and I will have the opportunity to play with and against the best players in the country."

The first scheduled game for the SSM U19 soccer team is September 19 against Sporting KC's team.
